This beautiful plant is sometimes called Bog Laurel, Swamp Laurel or Pale Laurel. Bog Laurel
starts to bloom in May around the Darrington Washington area. They like
to grow along the shores of alpine lakes, beaver ponds and wetlands. It is common to see it growing on
rotting logs and stumps, appearing to look like floating gardens in the
water.

In higher elevations Bog Laurel will bloom later as snow
melts away, sometimes as late as October. A good place to see Bog Laurel
blooming is at Texas Pond.
